The lessons learned from man-made and natural disasters, including 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina have led the State of Illinois, City ofChicago and the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council to develop Illinois Helps, an Emergency System for the Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP). Illinois Helps is a secure, web‐based system used to register, verify and credential volunteer health care professionals and licensed Amateur Radio Operators BEFORE a major public health or medical emergency occurs.
Amateur Radio Operators have played key roles in Katrina and other disasters. WE would encourage you to join your Local Health Department or Medical Reserve Corps. During an emergency your local hospital or other agencies could count on you to volunteer and assist with communications. Preplanning is key to preparedness. You would be vital resource to receive and forward communications.
Please go to www.illinoishelps.com to learn more or go to www.illinoishelps.net to join today.

By registering with Illinois Helps you can be part of a statewide alert system and be called upon to respond to any major disasters or public health emergencies in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Public Health, Chicago Department of Public Health and Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council are encouraging both medical and non-medical volunteers to register with Illinois Helps! More than 3,700 Illinoisans are already registered with the system and may be called upon to respond to any number of emergency situations including blizzards, disease outbreaks like H1N1 and bioterrorism attacks.

WELCOME TO THE CHICAGO FM CLUB. WA9ORC ESTABLISHED IN 02/25/1965 NON-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.
We are a not-for-profit organization established in the Chicago area since 1965. In this time we have hosted Radio EXPO, held many classes to help interested persons learn about Amateur Radio. We have participated in Field Day for many, many years. Our club has hosted countless VE testing sessions during our monthly meeting and during Radio EXPO. We have education programs at almost every meeting. Twice a year, we host Amateur Awareness Days for the general public to visit and learn about Amateur Radio, and see an actual emergency radio communication demonstration in which they can participate with the guidance of licensed “Hams”. We have worked with scout troops to get the kids involved.
Chicago FM Club, CFMC, is 250 members strong in 8 states and we continue to grow every month. We have many members who are either active or retired public servants, such as fire, police, etc. Many of our members are members of the Salvation Army Emergency Radio Team (S.A.T.E.R.N.), and the American Red Cross Emergency Communication Team. Our members have participated in emergency communication for many natural and man-made disasters.
CFMC is chartered by the State of Illinois as a "NON-FOR-PROFIT" corporation dedicated to technical improvement and public service within our community. The club is guided by four officers and five directors who are elected by the general membership for two year terms. Membership is open to all licensed Amateurs and is recommended for those who use the CFMC repeaters.
